Brain Aneurysm is a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel in the brain. Having a ruptured brain aneurysm is fatal in about 40% of cases and of those who survive, about 66% suffer some permanent neurological deficit, which means 4 out of 7 people who recover from a ruptured brain aneurysm will have disabilities. To battle such a serious medical condition is something that would have knocked out most people, but Marivic Bugarin is not most-people. She is a woman of faith and of revelation! She has faith in her God, that He is healer and her deliverer; and she knew that her life is in the hands of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
One Sunday morning of September 17, 2017, Pastor Marivic, is knocked down by a sudden attack of a ruptured brain aneurysm. She said that when the attack happened, she felt an extreme headache which caused her to collapse from the pain, and from that point until she was brought to Hospital Bicêtre via a helicopter, fear did not plague her because she declared Psalms 118:17:
I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the Lord.
She even told Satan, “What can you do to me? If I die, I’m blessed and if I live, I’m blessed. So either way I’m still blessed.”
Pastor Marivic became unconscious for several hours and stayed in the intensive care unit for a week. She was hooked to a breathing machine and her vital organs were monitored continuously by three neurological doctors. It took the three doctors 48 hours to decide on what course of treatment they should take and all roads lead to life threatening risks. On the third day the doctors decided to coil the aneurysm. A procedure that involves inserting a microcatheter to reach the aneurysm in one of the brain ventricles. By filling the aneurysm with metal coils, the procedure have effectively blocked the aneurysm from the rest of her cerebrovascular system to prevent bleeding and other complications. She believed that the doctors were empowered and guided by the Holy Spirit to keep her safe during the procedure.
On her fifth day in the hospital, she is declared conscious and out of brain aneurysm. When Pastor Marivic was moved into a normal room, the Holy Spirit urged her to remove her hospital gown as a sign of refusal to identify herself with sickness and depression.
Throughout the three weeks that she has been in the hospital, faith arose in every heart. It was evident how this blow brought everyone together, united towards the same goal. Family, friends and different churches from France, Israel, America and the Philippines worked together in unity to pray for the recovery of our beloved Pastor;
And this testimony just proves how our Lord is a God who hears, a God who heals and a God who delights in answering the prayers of His people. It was a difficult time for everyone yet our Lord showed how He is able to turn what the enemy has intended for evil into good.
I asked her what was her revelation from what happened. She answered that she now realized how short our days on earth really are. She said that she now sees that her days are numbered and that revelation increased her desire to use everyday of her life doing the work of Christ. It showed her that we must be careful not to waste a day in this earth without being useful in the Kingdom of God. That statement caused me to consider my own life. If a woman as successful and accomplished as Pastor Marivic could think of such a thing, how much more should a young woman as myself should strive harder? I realized right then, that in life, our validation really is in Christ.
Pastor Bong Bugarin said that “before I know but now I understand” and what a beautiful way to put it. All too often, it is so easy for us to get comfortable of the things we think we know, but when hard times hit and that’s when we truly understand how things are. Our hope doesn’t depend on the fickle sway of circumstances but on the solid rock called Jesus.
Pastor Marivic says that she has taken the path of the classic adage “prevention is better than cure“. It is better to stop something bad from happening by being vigilant at all times as our enemy the devil is like a roaring lion, seeking and waiting as to whom he may devour. Furthermore, she shared that this experience made them pray more diligently and with continued growing passion as a family. Pastor Marivic encourages everyone to do the same with their families, let us all be vigilant in our faith.
